Norway Area
Once upon a time, there was a man from Norway who, in the year 2022, crossed the border to Sweden to attend his very first CA meeting. He did not travel in search of recognition or position, but with a quiet hope for recovery. In that room, he encountered a fellowship built on honesty, equality, and the sharing of experience, strength, and hope. Something was awakened.
He knew that this fellowship had once existed in Norway. It had been tried before, but for reasons both known and unknown, it had faded away. Still, like many figures in Norwegian folk tales, he was not discouraged by what had not worked in the past. He believed that what is planted with humility and patience may yet grow.
In 2023, CA was brought back to Norway. The beginning was modest: one meeting per week, few members, but a strong sense of unity. On average, nine people gathered – enough to listen, enough to share, and enough to carry the message forward.
As time passed, the fellowship grew. After a year and a half, the meeting schedule expanded to two meetings per week. More members found their way in. The message was carried not through ambition, but through example. Attendance grew from an average of nine to thirty members per meeting. What had begun as a small seed had taken root.
Now, in the year 2026, CA in Norway holds three weekly in-person meetings in Oslo, with plans to add a fourth soon, in addition to one online meeting that allows the fellowship to reach beyond geography. What once was an attempt has become a living and growing fellowship. With growth comes responsibility. We now see a clear need to become recognized as an Area. Not to govern, not to control, but to better serve the groups and the fellowship. We believe that establishing CA in Norway with a clear Norwegian identity – firmly grounded in the CA Traditions – will strengthen connection and belonging for both current members and those still seeking recovery.
We wish to be part of something greater than ourselves, while allowing the fellowship to grow in Norwegian soil, shaped by local culture and united through shared principles. In this way, the CA message can become even more accessible, recognizable, and safe for those who need it. And perhaps, if we are allowed to continue this journey together as part of CA World, we may be able to write a happy ending to our story. Or perhaps simply a new chapter – where the story continues.
