New England Area (NEACA) Formerly Massachusetts Area

5 Year History of Massachusetts Area of Cocaine Anonymous (MACA)

MACA has been representing MA, NH, ME, VT, and RI states in New England on our meeting list and private Facebook group page for over 5 years now, hence the proposed Area name change to New England Area of Cocaine Anonymous (NEACA).

The longest standing CA Tuesday night and Friday night meetings in Cambridge, MA which have been around since 1987 became Hybrid in person and via Zoom in late 2021 or early 2022 when the CHA Cambridge Hospital – Macht Building location reopened to the public after COVID.

The Tuesday night meeting in Andover, MA started in July 2021 and has been well attended in person only ever since. The Sunday night meeting in Norwood, MA was a thriving group for over 10+ years, but unfortunately it permanently closed in January 2025 due to group members and attendees choosing to go to other Anonymous fellowship meetings in the area on the same night (mostly AA meetings).

The Friday night meeting in Dover, NH was a thriving group for over 10+ years but dwindled down due to COVID and new Anonymous fellowship meetings in the area on the same night opening after COVID (AA and CMA meetings) so they permanently closed in March 2026. There used to be a couple CA meetings in Burlington, VT and one in Rhode Island but those meetings closed 5+ years ago. As of now, there is only one active meeting in Manchester, NH (started November 2025) and one active meeting in Portland, ME (started at least 5 years ago) who were under-represented so they came on board with MACA and have been attending our Area Business Meetings. We have several H&I Commitments every month which are listed on our website at https://caofma.org and are well attended. Currently, every CA group in New England except the Manchester, NH group does their own H&I commitments. We have 6 Area Officers and 5 GSR’s at every Area Business Meeting which is held on the 2nd Monday of every other month on the odd months at 7pm via Zoom. The name MACA doesn’t accurately represent who we are anymore. We are hoping to be more inclusive and bridge the gap between individual CA meetings in New England by changing the name since there are only 5 meetings total.

The New England Area of C.A. is seeking ratification as an Area at the 2026 World Conference in Dallas, TX.
